INTRODUCING HARRY CLARK
I’m from Ipswich in Suffolk, UK. It’s close, safe and very familiar, but I am moving to London this year. A change of scenery will be good, to take more urban industrial photos as opposed to my rural country photos. I’m 17. I’ve been taking photos seriously since around 2008, when a got my first dslr as a christmas present. Photographers on flickr inspired me to start using film. I began with simply using disposables but soon upgraded to a film slr. I am not doing it for any academic achievement, just for enjoyment. It’s almost a habit. Apart from the fact that I check flickr daily, my life hasn’t changed yet. I am training to be dancer from September this year. Photography is a hobby and will continue to be a hobby of mine throughout this time. By continuing with the two, I could possibly make a career out of photography in later life. I’m looking into buying a film point and shoot either a yashica t4/5 or a olympus xa2. But a mamiya rz medium format camera would be nice. This photo is from a party I went to in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. It features my friend Brony leaning over the balcony of the house with an amazing view into the sea. I love the whole body positioning of her; the way her hair is delicately dangling over the edge. I like the small details like the drain marks on the wall and the yellow door in the background. You cannot tell whether this photo was taken in the early hours of the morning or just before the sun was setting: it is ambiguous. It is intriguing; it is not clear what happened before or after the shot was taken, or why it was taken. Initially this shot wasn’t my favourite of the bunch, but over time it has grown on me. I feel now that it is one of the strongest of my photos. Hannah Davis has been a favourite of mine on flickr for a very long time, I don’t think there is a single photo of hers which I dislike. I love the colours, tones and subject matters of her photos and she is one of my many inspirations.
