INTRODUCING MARIOS KALAMARIS
I am currently living in Athens, Greece. A quite unfriendly place to live and work. In general, it’s a dirty mass of concrete, with great weather and people of a peculiar temperament. I’m 29 years old and I’ve been taking pictures since I was 17 or so. It started as a need to document and collect instant ideas and feelings. Pretty much the same reasons I take pictures now. However, I don’t carry a camera with me all the time. I don’t think there’s a particular goal I want to achieve by taking pictures. It’s something that helps me to take a deeper look on things and to realize that sometimes there’s an interesting story behind something that at a glimpse seems meaningless. There are many people who mean a lot to me and probably I wouldn’t have met them if it wasn’t for photography. I use different cameras but I still love to work with the first camera I bought, an analogue canon A1 SLR. This is a picture of a favorite place of mine. It’s a small forest clearing, surrounded by very tall cypress trees. Such a breathtaking and inspiring view. Both scary and peaceful. There are several photographers whose work I admire, such as Jeff Luker, Lina Scheynius. They turn an everyday moment-a small personal experience into magic, in a realistic manner and then, they share it. I appreciate this. Also, Chadwick Tyler. I love the darkness in his work.
