INTRODUCING TOMMY NEASE
I am originally from North Carolina but I now live in Chicago, living so far from home has been a great experience. I have learned that it is so much more than a change of scenery, as it has been a change of existence, it feels like i am on another planet. I am 18 years old. I have been taking photos since I was a young child, I used to look through cameras and pretend I was flying an aircraft. That was my first memory of photography. It started as a curiosity, that grew into interest, that grew into action. At this point I feel like I am chasing my tail with photography, I just want to get to the point where I am content with my work. My life has changed in so many ways due to photography. I have developed an intense vehemence for supernatural affairs lately, which has given me back my childhood imagination but at the same time it feels like it is sending me off the deep end. I would like to make my own camera and shoot with that exclusively, I have yet to find a manufactured camera that I am truly happy with. This picture is the first of a series in progress, the series is an attempt to elucidate my personal demons through intimate self portraits. I am not sure what direction it is headed. I am also not sure if I will truly appreciate this photograph until it is displayed at least 8 feet by 10 feet. Kristopher Helton is a good friend of mine… I like the fact that he completely immerses himself into the thoughts and feelings that are present in his work, he’s a strange person who takes strange photographs and I like that.
